Friday's Top 5... Movies About Writers

#5: Misery

The perils of too much success - creating a character so popular that you may very well die trying to kill him or her off. In her career defining role, Kathy Bates is absolutely terrifying.

#4: Atonement

Atonement is the story of a young girl who wants to be a writer and gets caught up in the idea of shaping a narrative and then spends her adult life trying to "rewrite" history in order to make up for what she did. Though the story follows the writer's sister and the man she loves, Atonement is very much the writer's story.

#3: Adaptation.

"It's like a battle between motors and horses, like technology versus... horse." Written by one of Hollywood's few star writers, Adaptation. features brilliant turns by all involved, including Nicolas Cage in roles of both Charlie and Donald Kaufman.

#2: Through a Glass Darkly

The story of a writer who uses his daughter's mental illness to propel his own work, Through a Glass Darkly is one of Ingmar Bergman's best - and most revered - films.

#1: Sunset Boulevard

Perhaps an obvious pick on my part but... just couldn't resist.
